SPAIN2014 - Qualification for 2014 FIBA World Cup ends, attribution of four wild cards to come

The qualification process for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup came to a close on Sunday 22 September with the conclusion of EuroBasket 2013 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. As a result of this, 20 of the 24 national teams that will compete in FIBA’s flagship event next summer (30 August - 14 September 2014) are now known, with the remaining four to be determined through the attribution of wild cards by FIBA.

VEN2013 - Argentina took the third place

Argentina defeated the Dominican Republic, 103-93, to be one of the teams present in the Medal Ceremony of the 2013 FIBA Americas Caracas. Both teams had a very good effectiveness from the field. Facundo Campazzo was the best scorer for Argentina with 31 points.

In the first semifinal of the FIBA Americas Championship, Sergio Valdeolmillos team defeated Argentina, 76-70 and got their ticket to the Finals. Mexico grew with the passing of the minutes and closed better the game. Gustavo Ayon was the top scorer; with 24 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists.

Julio Lamas team raised his level at the second half, defeated Canada, 73-67 and got his ticket to the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Spain. The key player of the match for Argentina was Luis Scola, who scored 28 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.

Argentina defeated Uruguay without problems, 89-63, at the second phase of the 2013 FIBA Americas championship, and still dreams of the chance to qualify for the finals. Tomorrow will be all or nothing against Canada. Luis Scola scored 17 points and Adrian Boccia, 16.

After eliminating Brazil, Jamaica surprised Argentina, 81-75 and added another historic victory in the second round of the FIBA Americas Championship. Weyinmi Rose was the hero for the Jamaicans with 24 points.

VEN2013 - Puerto Rico remained unbeaten against Argentina

The Puerto Rican team defeated Argentina, 94-80, and remains undefeated in the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship. Puerto Rico's Renaldo Balkman was the best for his team with 23 points and 6 rebounds.
