PUR - A Conversation with Carlos Arroyo
Carlos Arroyo joined Galatasaray Liv Hospital in 2013 following a championship run with Be?ikta? in 2011–2012. The NBA veteran has also played for the Utah Jazz, Detroit Pistons, Orlando Magic, Miami Heat and Boston Celtics. In addition to his professional accolades, Arroyo has long been a stalwart of the Puerto Rican national team, which this past summer he helped qualify for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup with a silver medal at the FIBA Americas Championship.

The qualification process for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup came to a close on Sunday 22 September with the conclusion of EuroBasket 2013 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. As a result of this, 20 of the 24 national teams that will compete in FIBA’s flagship event next summer (30 August - 14 September 2014) are now known, with the remaining four to be determined through the attribution of wild cards by FIBA.

VEN2013 - Mexico is Americas Champion

The team led by Sergio Valdeolmillos defeated Puerto Rico, 91-89, to become the Champion of the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship. Gustavo Ayon was the best player for Mexico in the game and he was selected as the Most Valuable Player of the Championship.

VEN2013 - Mexico celebrates the qualification

Mexico took the court already qualified for the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Spain, and defeated Puerto Rico, 66-59. Puerto Rico head coach, Francisco Olmos decided to rest, Jose Barea, Carlos Arroyo and Renaldo Balkman . Noe Alonzo was the best scorer with 13 points.

VEN2013 - Puerto Rico got his ticket to the World Cup

Puerto Rico came back from a difference from 22 points and defeated Venezuela in overtime, 86-85, to become the first qualified team for the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Spain. Jose Juan Barea, 30 points, and Renaldo Balkman, with 26 points, were the best players of the winning team.

VEN2013 - Dominican took the unbeaten record from Puerto Rico

The team led by Orlando Antigua defeated Puerto Rico, 94-82 and stopped the “Boricuas” winning streak of five. Jack Martinez was the best scorer for his team with 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

VEN2013 - Puerto Rico remained unbeaten against Argentina

The Puerto Rican team defeated Argentina, 94-80, and remains undefeated in the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship. Puerto Rico's Renaldo Balkman was the best for his team with 23 points and 6 rebounds.

VEN2013 - Puerto Rico defeated Uruguay and remains undefeated

The Puerto Rican team defeated Uruguay, 93-69, in a game for Group A of the FIBA Americas Championship. The team led by Francisco Olmos showed no mercy to a loose defensive work of the rival.
